Are you a Google Authoritative Publisher?
Google Authorship has come and gone, but Google now has been working on a patent that is referred to as “authoritative rank.” This is essentially an invisible “score” for digital authors across the web and social media that could affect content rankings based on the user’s search query.
In the more recent version Google’s patent, the user with the highest authoritative score compared to other authoritative users would have a competitive advantage over other digital authors and publishers.
What does this mean for online publishers? It means that truly authoritative content creators are going to need to bolster their authorative rank by not only publishing exceptional, high quality content on their own website or blog, but also be mentioned/cited or become an active author and contributor to other very high authority websites and social media properties.
It took a long time for you to build up your reputation and authoritative value in the physical world, and the same may soon apply to the digital world.
What are some things that I should be doing to set myself up for success in the future?
- Contribute content to other authorative websites that compliment your market or industry.
- Answer questions and take part in part discussions, interviews, and forums within your target market or industry
- Create helpful written, visual, and social media content that can be shared to bolster that you are indeed the subject matter expert within your market or industry.
